Frequently Asked Questions
The Rachio Smart Lighting Controller is a 200W controller for low-voltage landscape lighting that brings the same smart technology and user experience from our irrigation products to outdoor lighting.
The controller is compatible with low-voltage systems using bulbs rated up to 15 volts of electricity. It works with both LED and incandescent lamps and can replace your existing controller in most cases.
No. The lighting controller is fully integrated with the existing Rachio App, allowing you to control both your irrigation and lighting from the same interface with no subscription fees.
Installation is straightforward for existing lighting systems. The controller plugs into a protected outdoor socket and includes a mounting plate with level for easy setup. Then simply connect your lighting wires to the terminals.
The controller supports 3 independent lighting zones, allowing you to turn them on and off separately.
The system has a total power capacity of 200 watts, shared across all zones combined. While each zone can control up to 200 watts worth of lights, the combined load of all zones must not exceed 200 watts total.
The number of lights you can connect depends on the wattage of each lamp. For best performance and long‑term reliability, we recommend operating at 70–80% of the maximum capacity (approximately 140–160 watts total), which is standard practice for low‑voltage lighting transformers.
Yes! The Rachio Smart Lighting Controller is the first outdoor lighting controller on the market to work with Matter. This means you can add it to Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and Amazon Alexa systems. How do we know? Well, we wrote the Matter spec for outdoor lighting controllers.
Matter is a new technology that works with standard smart-home technologies like Apple HomeKit and Google Home.
The Rachio Smart Lighting Controller supports 2.4 & 5 GHz, WiFi 6 (802.11ax).
Yes. The controller allows you to create custom zones and scenes with adjustable brightness levels.
Please note that not all low‑voltage LED lamps dim the same way. Dimming compatibility depends on the lamp’s internal driver design. For smooth, reliable dimming, use lamps or fixtures that are rated by their manufacturer for use with low‑voltage or controller‑based dimming systems. We recommend testing lamp compatibility before final installation.
You can create custom schedules for zones, areas, and scenes, or rely on sunrise/sunset schedules which automatically adjust throughout the year.
After a power outage, the controller will turn the lights on or off based on your schedule. You can modify this setting through Matter to always return your lights to on or off. Please note: If a controller resets two or more times in 45 seconds, the unit will remain off as a safety precaution.
Yes, the Smart Lighting Controller is rated IP-65 for outdoor use with a weather-resistant design. No additional enclosure is required.
